Papillary thyroid carcinoma arising from a median ectopic thyroid with no thyroglossal duct remnant.
Thyroid carcinomas arising from ectopic thyroid tissue are uncommon;most of them arise from thyroid tissue in thyroglossal cysts. A rare case of a 66-year-old woman with papillary thyroid carcinoma arising from median ectopic thyroid tissue lacking a thyroglossal duct remnant is reported. The tumor was resected by Sistrunk's procedure, and the patient's postoperative course was good.
متن کاملEctopic thyroid in presumed thyroglossal duct cyst.
We report a case of an eight year old female child with a midline neck mass for seven years. Since its early presentation, this midline mass has recently increased in size. A presumptive diagnosis of thyroglossal duct cyst was made clinically and planned for surgery. Preoperative evaluation revealed hypothyroidism, hence she was referred to us for the management of the same prior to excision. O...

A 52-year-old woman presented with a small midline anterior neck mass and a 3-kg-weight loss over the course of one month. The patient was diagnosed with Graves disease based on increased free T4 levels (3.30 ng/dL), suppressed thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels (<0.001 IU/mL), and a high titer of TSH receptor antibodies (32.6 IU/L). Scintigraphy with Tc-99m pertechnetate (Fig. 1) also re...

Thus, there is no unified appropriate therapeutic strategy, and individual approaches are controversial. PATIENTS CONCERNS We report the case of a 21-year old woman who underwent Sistrunk procedure for a thyroglossal duct cyst (TGDC). DIAGNOSES During histological evaluation of the rese...
متن کاملEctopic thyroid and Hashimoto's thyroiditis arising from a thyroglossal duct cyst: a case report.
A seventy-five-year-old male patient presented with a palpable smooth mass that moved upwards on swallowing, extending from the hyoid bone to the cricoid cartilage. Ultrasonography, scintigraphy, and thyroid hormone measurements showed the mass free from the thyroid gland. Following a diagnosis of infected thyroglossal duct cyst by fine needle aspiration biopsy, the mass was removed by surgery....
